On the 20th June 2010 up to 150 yachts will race the 30th Bi-Annual Round Ireland Yacht Race! This is your chance to race a competitive racing yacht in the second longest race in the RORC calendar! You can now be part of the action with Dublin’s Yacht Training Centre, Sailing West! This event promises to be amazing, not just the craic ashore, but also the 704 mile race track promises to be competitive with the world’s top sailors coming to play! With challenging tides, ocean weather, swell & interesting headlands coupled with bags of wildlife and the magical land that is Ireland you will sail one of the most stunning coastlines in the world! NO PREVIOUS RACING EXPERIENCE NECESSARY! We will train you with everything you need to know to be safe on the water and enjoy yourself racing one of our yachts! You will be trained by one of our senior instructors who will show you how to do everything required of you to complete this challenge! All you need to do is sign up and allow us to unlock your true potential, remember, One Life....Live It! The Package The Package consists of 4 Training weekends and then the Round Ireland Yacht Race starting on the 20th June 2010. Dates: · 27/28 March 2010: 2 days ISAF Offshore Saftey Course (If you have already done this let us know) · 17/18 April, 15/16 May & 12/13 June 2010: 6 days over 3 weekends Race Training · 19/27 June: 30th Round Ireland Yacht Race Cost: · Full Package : €2295 · Booking Deposit: €795 (to be taken off total cost) · Berth on Yacht · \One of Sailing West’s Senior Instructors · Fully Qualified 1st Mate · ISAF Course (If you have already done this please let us know) · 3 Race Training weekends (6 days afloat) · Race Entry fees · Team Jacket · Team Shirt · Food aboard yacht · Loan of wet gear · Fuel & Marina Fee Round Ireland Training 1 – 27th & 28th March 2010 This first weekend you will undergo the necessary safety training by completing the ISAF Offshore safety course. This course includes the one-day RYA Sea Survival course, followed by a day covering heavy weather seamanship, weather forecasting, first aid, fire fighting and man overboard recovery
Round Ireland Training 2 – 17th/18th April 2010 This weekend is afloat on the yacht that is going to carry you around Ireland in June. During this weekend we will be training you in: Sail Handling – Reefing, Hoisting & Peels of Headsails & Spinnakers Yacht Crew Positions e.g. bow, mast, pit, trim, helm, tactics Boat Speed – Learning how to make the yacht sail at full speed! Offshore Passage Making – Navigation & Strategy
Round Ireland Training Weekend 3 – 15th/16th May 2010 This weekend we go yachting offshore, we sail overnight to the Isle of Man / North Wales or Northern Ireland During this weekend we will be training you in: Offshore Boat Handling – Spinnaker & Jib Peels by day & night! Watch Systems – Crew Motivation & Safety Offshore Offshore Maintenance – Keeping your yacht at full speed! Round Ireland Training Weekend 12th /13th June 2010 This weekend we just go yachting and practice all the skills we have been learning the previous training weekends whilst sailing offshore. We bring it all together and get the team polished ready for the big race! Round Ireland Race – 19th -27th June We sail down to Wicklow on the Saturday 19th June and get ready for the gun on the 20th! Saturday 20th June: We are off! 704 Miles of race track to go for! The race takes on average about 4/5 days to complete but maybe a bit less or more depending on the breeze.
